精东影业 Sueltenfuss Library Hosts 鈥淎lonso S. Perales: Civil Rights Trailblazer鈥 Exhibit

The Sueltenfuss Library proudly presents 鈥淎lonso S. Perales: Civil Rights Trailblazer,鈥 an exhibition by the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute (MACRI). This exhibit highlights the life and legacy of Alonso S. Perales (1898-1960)鈥攁 civil rights lawyer, U.S. diplomat, and public intellectual who played a pivotal yet often overlooked role in American history.
Alongside MACRI鈥檚 exhibit, the Sueltenfuss Library also presents:
Legacy in Motion: Creatively Interpreting Alonso Perales鈥 Legacy for a New Generation
Curated by the library, this showcase features historical photographs alongside creative projects developed by 精东影业 students reflecting on Perales鈥 impact on Mexican American civil rights. Highlights include:
- 鈥淎 Legacy in Linocut鈥 鈥 This exhibit showcases a series of linocut prints created by students in 精东影业鈥檚 Visual & New Media Arts printmaking course to honor the legacy of Alonso S. Perales. Led by Dr. Suzy Gonz谩lez, the works reflect artistic interpretations of Perales鈥 impact and contributions.
- 鈥淎 Geographic Timeline: Alonso Perales鈥 Life-Long Legacy of Justice & Equality鈥 鈥 This interactive, bilingual multimedia presentation, created by students in Dr. Kim Kennedy鈥檚 Reading Comprehension course (EDUC), explores key moments in Perales鈥 lifelong fight for justice and equality.
- 鈥淓xplorando El Legado de Alonso Perales: Hands-On Learning Activities鈥 鈥 Designed for students, this interactive experience enhances the Perales exhibit with engaging, hands-on activities for school-aged children. It was developed by students in Dr. Kim Kennedy鈥檚 undergraduate and graduate education courses.
- 鈥淧erales in Photos鈥 鈥 A photographic display curated by The Sueltenfuss Library, featuring images courtesy of Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage, Arte P煤blico Press, University of Houston.
